Hands like clouds
Based on Qigong principles related to the circulation of Qi, blood, and bodily fluids, we will learn one of the fundamental Taijiquan movements: “Cloud Hands.”
We will explore the deeper meaning of this movement by examining its different Qi qualities — Yin and Yang, rising and sinking, expansion and withdrawal, opening and closing.
In general, the exercise “Cloud Hands” harmonizes the interaction between the left and right hemispheres of the brain, enhances our coordination skills, gently strengthens the back, opens the hips, and calms the nervous system.
At first, “Cloud Hands” will be practiced in a parallel stance. Then we will move on to other stances, and eventually we will gradually add stepping. By incorporating steps into our practice, more power is transferred from the lower body (legs) to the upper body (arms). This improves the effectiveness of the exercise, making it more complete and dynamic.
Finally, we will integrate “Cloud Hands” into the sequence of movements known as the “13-Posture Form,” which is the core form of our Taijiquan practice. The “13-Posture Form” is both complete and symmetrical. It can be practiced in a small space, such as a room, allowing us to continue learning and progressing consistently.
