KAOUTHAR DARMONI ABOUT WOMEN AND THEIR POWER THROUGH THE DANCE
For Kaouthar, every woman is a goddess and has a goddess within her, and this goddess wants to come out. Women can fulfill their life as a Goddess when they invest well-deserved personal time to nourish and celebrate their feminine spirit.
Goddess (belly) Dance, in arabic Raqsat al Ilaha (Dance of the Goddess) has a long and colorful history. Born to celebrate Mother Earth, the art of this dance originated as a fertility ritual dance, re-enacting the miraculous process of birth while celebrating the fertility that makes birth possible. Humankind’s oldest recorded piece of art, the sculpture entitled “Venus of Willendorf”, is believed by many archaeologists to be evidence of ancient matriarchal societies and they think it is at least 25,000 years old. During this period, women danced with other women to honor Mother Earth in sacred ceremonies and for childbirth preparation.
Approximately 4,000 years ago, patriarch-based religions conquered the matriarch-based religions, but belly dance survived and was transformed into entertainment.
GODESS DANCE IS A WAY TO CONTROL FEMININE ENERGY
“I want to support and accelerate a disclosure of feminine self-consciousness. I want to empower women through the dance. I use this instrument Goddes Belly dance as the oldest ritual in the world, originally it is called ‘Raqsat al Wilada’ (Birth Dance) or ‘Raqsat al Ilaha’ (Goddess Dance).
During a time when there was a matriarchate in Mesopotamia and people did not know about the God they knew only Goddess and Eastern Dance was a way of Divinity celebration which is in the every woman because every woman is able to give a life, femininity. It was an ode for Femininity and that is how Eastern Dance has born.”
“It is a dance which enabled a woman to connect with her inner power, her primary feminine strength in order to be able to use that in her work and society where she lived. It was a dance of solidarity where women have met celebrated and socialized. That was the way to control feminine energy. It was important as women have the power.”
